Why should I choose STAR Rated properties?

They’re Accurate

STAR Rating Assessors undertake a comprehensive training
program to make sure the standards are applied correctly every
time. Assessors inspect a wide variety of accommodation and
facilities within the same property. We even have auditors who
randomly check the work of the Assessors – that’s how important
accuracy to us.

They’re Trustworthy

You can’t buy trust, it can only be earned. For over 50 years Australian
travellers have come to trust STAR Ratings for their consistency and
reliability. We’re committed to maintaining that trust.
They’re Easy to Understand

The assessment process is complex and very thorough – but the
resulting STAR Rating is simple to understand. Each rated property
must display its STAR Rating level and the category for that Rating,
e.g “MOTEL  ”

They’re Independent

Ever wondered if hotels have a cosy arrangement with the Assessors
to get the STAR Ratings they’re after? The answer is – no way!
Assessors are fiercely protective of their objectivity, and are trained
to assess a property against a strict 1000 point checklist. Their loyalty
is to you, the traveller, and they can only deliver on that loyalty by
remaining impartial at every stage of the assessment process.

They’re Consistent

STAR Rating Assessors dig below the surface impressions and
check accommodation properties against clear standards which
cover facilities, amenities, maintenance, appearance and décor,
and cleanliness. Whether it’s big or small, on the coast or in the
desert, each accommodation property is subject to the same
process, and must, once accepted into the Scheme also comply
with the same standards..

Is “self rated” the same as STAR Rated?

No! Suns, Happy Faces, Bananas are symbols you’d expect
to see when you’re playing the pokies, not when you’re
looking for accommodation online.

But they are occasionally used by properties who have “rated” themselves
without any independent checking. A “self rating” is not a STAR Rating.
“Self ratings” are not supported by leading tourism bodies as quite simply,

Who Owns the STARS?

The Australian STAR Rating Scheme is operated on behalf
of Australia’s Auto Clubs:
New South Wales: NRMA, Victoria: RACV, Queensland: RACQ,
South Australia: RAA, Western Australia: RAC, Tasmania: RACT,
Northern Territory: AANT.

AAA Tourism Pty Ltd, a company owned by the Auto Clubs, manages
the day to day running of the Scheme.

STAR Ratings have remained a reliable source of accommodation
information for over 50 years.

fingertips, the Auto Clubs also provide a range of printed accommodation
guides, and great online information for the use of travellers.
