Why I LUV Spam!
Erk.. this sort of statement can see normally rational people turn into a lynch mob. But hang on... er pardon the pun, I've a developed Taikwondo approach to Spam.
I'd better explain. Taikwondo is a martial art. It works on the principle of the least resistance to achieve maximum effect. Amongst some of the moves if someone tries to push you over, you deliberately fall a special way ensuring your opponent wears the maximum impact.
Confused aren't you? Well lets examine the phenomenon of spam.
Once upon a time the internet was developed as part of the Cold War Military Strategy. Just in case all the lights went out it was meant to be a fail safe, I guess for retaliation.
Soon after the Cold War thawed to just a frost, Bulletin Boards sprang up. Mainly for what some people rudely referred to as geeks or nerds. If you didn't know DOS well heck you weren't in the inner sanctum.
Then I think Apple borrowed a system developed by XEROX and then a bloke called Bill Gates furthered this all with Microsoft. Ever heard the joke IBM = I'm Becoming a Mac Sorry if I got my history lesson all wrong.
So anyway today we have the Information Highway, Surfing, etc...
However in the past e-commerce or making a buck from the net was frowned upon. Wasn't it all there for enlightenment? Cutting to the chase some of today's Guru's who frown upon spam were the biggest users and abusers of SPAM! Quite a few made their first and second million from it.
Anyway for those unfamiliar and not to be rude to new users SPAM is now defined as unsolicited emails.
This is not to be confused with Junk E-Mail. which most people do.
Spam is when you haven't subscribed to receive emails soliciting or advertising products. Often lists are sold of unknowing individuals to these spammers, who with Bulk Mail Programs send out their greeting to 1000's if not millions of people at a time. Knowing that by pure numbers 1 % will buy.
Now on advice given don't do it. It may seem a good way to make a fast buck and it may even work for a short time, but when the wrath of the anti spammers falls upon you... you will lose your business quicker than you can say spam.
Junk E-Mail is a different kettle of fish altogether. Junk E-Mail comes in the guise of
1. Thank you for posting to my FFA's type letters. Yes if you have posted your website to an FFA or a Search engine you will be bombarded with zillions of these emails giving you that warm and fuzzy feeling. Particularly if they end up in your personal email boxes.
REMEDY... Get yourself a new email address hotmail, yahoo whatever just for this purpose. I like yahoo because I can delete 200 emails at a time. Reminds me a bit of flushing the loo.
2. You entered a competition or request further details on an opportunity.Same remedy.
3. You emailed somebody one of your offers. REMEDY... Let he/she who is with sin cast the first stone.
Ok so here's what's good about junk emails.
Now here's where I find my Junk Boxes a Marketers Dream.
1. Get Yourself a FREE Copy Writer!
Go through all the junk emails and you will find some quite clever subject lines. Often when they are interesting enough subjects the letters are quite good too.
2. Check Out some of their Amazing Offers.
Looking for things to sell on the internet. Its right there in front of you in all that clutter of spam. and junk e-mail. Just yesterday I signed up for 4 programs that provide me with a high commission on excellent products. All these were FREE and provided FREE Websites.
Believe me there is treasure in all that trash.
3. Get Motivated Salespeople.
Somebody once told me, its far easier to sell to a salesman. They were not wrong!
Now if somebody sends you an offer there is nothing wrong with thanking them and returning the compliment. However refer to item 3 junk e-mails.
Here's how to do it properly!
Simply go though your junk mail.
1. Have a preformated sales letter you have written about your offer.
It should start something like....
Hi.....
Thank you for your offer I have read today. In return of your kind offer may I send one of my own that you as a sophisticated marketeer may appreciate....
or words to that effect.....
(Keep your offer to less than 500 words... spammers are always busy people.)
Have a great day (whatever)
Your name.
2. THIS IS IMPORTANT. So Read carefully.
I would not recommend harvesting names by just copying all names and emails and email addresses. Then putting it in a bulk mailer and then spamming the spammers. Some of them are just as likely to dob you in.
INSTEAD DO THIS...
1. Open each email that has a return address... Hit Reply, Insert the persons name in the Subject line with Hi Bob (whatever) Thanks for your offer (whatever)
2. Except for 2 lines or so delete the contents of the email. This will along with the return email prove that you weren't spamming.
3. Open you preformated offer insert the persons name in Hi.... enclose your email.
4. HIT send.
Too easy right! What's more it is highly effective. I recruited 30 people to a program in just 24 hours by using this method. Mind you I did send several hundred emails, but considering my success using FFA's this was 100 fold the success I'd had over a month with FFA's.
5. To Recruit more like this simply open a dud email. One where you can collect and do as previously illustrated. Simply send out a few web links to the FFA's sit back and duplicate this method.
Honestly the hardest workers and most professional people you sponsor can be got this way.
6. It's probably not worth responding to spam telling the spammers to go away.
This just confirms that they are sending to an active email address.
